WTF plus Joy equals New Adventures

At the beginning of 2022 I accepted a short-term contract position in Clinical Business Administration at UW's Department of Medicine - best described as the project managers for all the stuff no one else wants to do. As time went on, I realized that as a single person, it was getting harder to afford to live in Greater Seattle. I was facing the decision to either have a 2-hour commute to stay in the area or move to a new location altogether.

Fast forward to finding out that Nicole and Josh, my North Carolina kiddos, were expecting baby #2, joining Big Sister, Sofia. To me, it was a sign that I was ready for a new adventure.

I was living in Greater Seattle and travelling to Durham 3 to 4 times a year, why couldn't I do that in reverse? Also, my family and friends are my family and friends wherever I am.

At the end of my contract, I packed up my stuff into a U-Haul box, finished up some personal stuff, attended a Gratitude Retreat (that is the abbreviated version of 5 weeks this fall), filled up my 2012 Ford Escape and drove across country to my new apartment in Durham.

I've been here to help with the arrival of Nora Pearl on December 20th...and have had a blast seeing the world through my wonderful Sofia's 3yo eyes. Even with all this joy, I do miss my Northwest community, especially my son Scott, the lovely Jenna, and Spike, the furry grandkid!

But that's the thing about having so many loved ones that live across the world is that there is always someone you miss!

I do have the occasional moments of "WTF - what did I do?" But one of the many lessons I have learned in the last few years is that adventure is a necessity to growth and good for the soul. Faith requires us to say YES before we even know what direction to step!

Happy 2023 and here's to the next great adventure!
